Speakers

Paige Baugher
Ph.D., EMR, WFR, is a Rescue Leader and Public Information Officer, Portland Mountain Rescue. She also is a Professional Observer and Ava-lanche Awareness Instructor, Northwest Avalanche Center and an Avalanche Educa-tor, Outdoor Pur-suits, Pacific Universi-ty of Oregon.

Steve Rollins is a Rescue Leader for Portland Mountain Rescue (PMR), a non-profit mountain rescue team that conducts SAR missions for lost/ out-of-bounds skiers and snowboards, rescues fallen climbers, and provides other search and rescue services at the request of law enforcement.  The team specializes in high-mountain, all-weather rescues including avalanche, crevasse rescue, zero-visibility navigation, technical rope rescue, and helicopter operations.

Learn and be entertained as Steve shares stories from his 26-years of mountain rescue service. Hear true stories of people getting into trouble in the mountains and lessons that can be learned.

What’s a rescuer’s first SAR mission like?

What was his most dangerous mission?

What was most dramatic?

Every story has a lesson to be learned to help you avoid needing rescue services, or to survive if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of needing PMR’s services.

Afternoon Session (2:40 PM - 4:00 PM)

How to Jumpstart Your Facebook Social Media Presence

Speakers

Marc Galt, Founder
Ski the Northwest

Todd Hood, Treasurer
National Brotherhood of Skiers Western Region

Well social media is just another communication tool. Just like newsletters, websites, and emails. If your message is not being seen, it is worth less, and some may even say worth-less. Therefore, the first step is getting more of the right people to "see" your message.

This Snowsports Leadership Academy workshop will share actionable steps so attendees can use standard free Facebook tools to grow their social media audience immediately.

The facilitator is a two-time FWSA award-winning club and council Facebook Social Media Admin.  Who better to learn from than an individual that has grown Facebook Group membership by nearly 25% in a 28-day period to 10,000 members?  Now, as a Far West Ski Association annual convention attendee, you have the chance to hear his secrets.

All attendees of the Snowsports Leadership Academy will receive a Certificate of Completion for each module. All Delegates to the FWSA Convention are given internet access to the Leadership Packet, which contains a myriad of information on each of the components (with expanded topics).
