Aspen Skiing Company recognizes Emilio Trampuz as FWSA Safety Person of the Year

The winner of the 2007 Safety Person of the Year was Emilio Trampuz, from Mountain High Snowsports Club, Portland, Oregon, a member club of Northwest Ski Club Council. Emilio is an integral part of his club, wearing many hats including newsletter editor and webmaster. He also organizes ski trips. He has written numerous articles on safety, avalanches, and other safety related topics (see Articles and Safety at
www.mthigh.org). For the last few years he has written and promoted a unique idea, Vision of Safer Skiing in the 21st Century. He has contacted many ski areas to share these practical ideas including creative ways to lower speeds on the slopes; improve turning skills by setting up obstacle courses with orange cones or whisker gates; provide more emphasis on side-slipping and other elements the controlling speed and turn radius at ski schools. He has suggested opening more training courses for the public, similar to terrain parks but devoted to turning instead of jumping. For more information go to the Vision page at
