Making History, produced in celebration of the 150th anniversary of ski clubs and ski racing, premiered in part at the FWSA annual meeting in June 2011, is a compilation of achievements by “organized skiing” over the last 150 years. The Plumas Ski Club and County Museum has discovered proof that ski clubs and ski racing started in North America 150 years ago in the gold camps of the Sierra. The organized skiing story for the Far West, however, is incomplete without highlights of companion achievements in ski councils, travel services to members, area development and vignettes of people and events that made history and are still making history. These are treated in separate chapters to accompany the ones on clubs and ski racing.
Making History is designed to be presented in 10-15 minute chapter segments in meetings of snowsports organizations or to civic groups. Use of the educational DVD is enhanced with narration by the presenter and the ability to pause the video. The chapters are preceded by an introduction and followed by an epilogue - both with relevant historical content. Making History, highlighting the achievements by “organized skiing”, may be obtained with prepaid orders for $30.00 from the Far West Ski Foundation, Box 861, Fallbrook, CA 92088.
